In addition to the Graduate Major in Chemical Science and Engineering (where 70% of the department's faculty are assigned to teach), the department offers interdisciplinary majors in Energy Science and Engineering, Human Centered Science and Biomedical Engineering, and Nuclear Engineering. Students are able to choose their major at the time of admission.
The four respective disciplines have close connections with one another, making it possible for students majoring in Chemical Science and Engineering to study interdisciplinary subjects.
2
Laboratories of the Department's faculty are divided equally between Ookayama Campus and Suzukakedai Campus. A fulfilling graduate student life can be gained either at Ookayama Campus (Meguro-Ku, Tokyo), which is conveniently located in Tokyo, and at Suzukakedai Campus (Midori-Ku, Yokohama), which is green and spacious.
3
While receiving guidance, advice, and support from the distinguished faculty of the Department of Chemical Science and Engineering, it is possible to carry out world-level challenging research tasks with the aid of state-of-the-art equipment. There are many opportunities for engaging in joint research with overseas universities and research institutes as well as national research institutes and private corporations. Communication skills, leadership skills, and cooperativeness are improved through cooperation and discussions with other students and researchers during master's thesis research and doctoral thesis research.
4
Many graduate major students give presentations about their achievements at domestic and overseas conferences and workshops, etc. The process of organizing one's ideas and findings based on logic, preparing easy-to-understand slides, and delivering presentations with due preparation is a great opportunity for students to grow as researchers. Moreover, students are encouraged to submit papers to English journals to publicize their excellent research achievements to an international audience. Publishing of papers allow students to become a recognized member of the chemistry community, and furthermore enables them to leave their mark on the history of chemistry.
5
Students who wish to pursue their research beyond the master's degree level to develop their abilities further can advance to the Doctoral Program. It is said that having a doctoral degree in the field of chemistry awards individuals international recognition as a credible researcher. Additionally, research abroad opportunities available at the doctoral level enable students to gain an international perspective.
the Doctoral Program is designed to develop the next generation of leaders capable of finding global success in the field of applied chemistry.
