The International Exchange Student program enables students from Tokyo Tech's partner institutions that participate in tuition waiver agreements to enroll as ACAP or YSEP exchange students. [LIST of agreements]
Only those students who have been recommended by their home universities are eligible to apply.
Under the Academic Cooperation Agreement Program (ACAP), Tokyo Tech waives the application, admission, and tuition fees of undergraduate (second year or above) and graduate-level International Exchange Students from participating partner universities. ACAP students are accepted for a period of 3 months to 1 year, where they can begin their research on the first day of any month.
(For JASSO Scholarship recipients, the period of study must start in either April or September and last from 2 quarters (a semester) to 4 quarters (a year).)
ACAP students are assigned to a laboratory and may study and conduct research under the guidance of an academic supervisor. With the permission of the course instructor and their academic supervisor, it may be possible for ACAP students to enroll in courses. Some courses, however, may have prerequisite requirements for enrollment. Undergraduate ACAP students who are in the final year of a Bachelor's degree program or possess this academic equivalency may enroll in graduate classes offered in English.
*Some courses might impose conditions for attendance on undergraduate students, such as the completion of basic subjects.
Under the Young Scientist Exchange Program, Tokyo Tech waives the application, admission, and tuition fees of undergraduate (3rd year or above) and master's program students from partner universities. Students are assigned to a laboratory and conduct thematic research under the guidance of an academic supervisor. YSEP students are required to attend lectures on Japanese culture and society, study cultural fieldwork skills, and to visit factories of leading manufacturers. It may be possible for YSEP students to enroll in classes in specific subject areas and participate in Japanese language study. All the courses are conducted in English in this program.
Tokyo Tech offers two types of YSEP programs: "YSEP Focused on Research," a yearlong program that admits students from September to the following August; and "YSEP for Experiencing Japan," a six-month program that admits students from September to February or from March to August.
