Coronavirus disease(Covid-19)

COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus that is generally transmitted by droplet or contact infection. Fever and respiratory symptoms often last for about a week, and severe lethargy (malaise) may occur. The incubation period is 1-14 days (the average duration is 5-6 days), and the period of possible infection (i.e., the possibility of spreading the disease to others) is from 2 days before to 7-10 days after the onset of the disease.

COVID-19 is a virus that anyone can contract and can spread to others without even noticing. People who are suffering from the virus, those who are told to be a close contact or undergoing a PCR test are facing fear, anxiety, and mental pressure. Tokyo Tech community should focus on what’s important to each other and act in human rights, stop stigma, discrimination, sharing unconfirmed rumours and personal information. This is the time when we should all come together, be thoughtful, caring, supportive as one community.

Influenza is the respiratory infection caused by influenza virus. The incubation period is usually 1-4 days,(maximum 7days) and main symptoms are high fever, headache, cough, sore throat, running nose, joint pain and muscle pain. The systemic symptoms are more serious than common cold.

Vaccine-Preventable Diseases

From the perspective of risk and health management, members of the Institute are recommended to check their immunization records for measles, rubella, mumps, and varicella. Those with no records or who are not sure of their immunization should consult a doctor at a clinic for vaccination. Also, those who are living in dormitories, should consider taking the meningococcal vaccine.
