Imperial-Tokyo Tech Global Fellows Programme

Imperial-Tokyo Tech Global Fellows Programme 2019
Outline

The Imperial-Tokyo Tech Global Fellows Programme 2019 will bring together doctoral students from Tokyo Tech and Imperial College London and offer an opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary collaborative work to find solutions to a global issue.

About 40 participants (20 from each institution) will work together for five days, designing solutions to achieve one of the United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, ‘Climate Action.’

Through group discussions, poster presentations, a field trip, etc., participants will develop leadership skills, interdisciplinary and intercultural awareness, and communication skills, and build networks essential for collaboration.


Following the programme, Tokyo Tech participants who have made arrangements with an Imperial faculty member may remain in London at their own expense for an additional three-week research placement with a lab or group at the university. 1. Tokyo Tech doctoral students and Tokyo Tech master’s students who will enter Tokyo Tech doctoral programs in April 2019 . Students of all nationalities, departments and majors are eligible to apply. The program is not open to those in non-degree or exchange programs at Tokyo Tech.

Expenses

1) Roundtrip airfare between Tokyo and London.

  • Participants will purchase their own tickets, so the cost may vary depending on the airline and ticket purchase dates.
  • Those receiving a stipend(80,000 yen) may use it to cover part or all of the cost of their airfare.

2) Enrollment in overseas travel insurance and a risk management service. The cost for both is approximately 10,000 yen.

3) Personal expenses.

Note: Meals (3 per day) and accommodation during the programme will be provided free of charge.

AEARU (Association of East Asian Research Universities)

APRU-AEARU Multi-Hazard Summer School
Outline

The 7th APRU Multi-Hazards Summer School will be held in Japan July 22 to 25 atTohoku University in collaboration with academic consortium AEARU*. This year's theme is “Supporting the interface between science and policy for decision making in disaster risk reduction (DRR).” Participants will understand the mechanism of international DRR strategy, learn from the experience and recovery process of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, learn from various DRR projects implemented in the Tohoku region and overseas, and discuss the roles of science, technology, and universities in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Outline

Tokyo Tech students are invited to apply for enrollment in their choice of one of three self-paced online courses, free of charge, through the Tokyo Tech co-sponsored AEARU Summer Institute for Extended Flipped Education:

Of those who complete this online learning program in February and March, about 50 selected students will advance to the AEARU Summer Institute, where they will have the opportunity to engage in face-to-face, intensive, extended learning sessions from July 15 to 19, 2019 at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).Those who complete both the online course of their choice and the Summer Institute at HKUST will be awarded HKUST credits.

AEARU Winter Abroad Program 2018
Outline

AEARU Winter Abroad Program 2018 will be held at Yonsei Universityʼs Sinchon Campus for 3 weeks in the period of December 2018 to February 2019. Tokyo Tech students who would like to participate are invited to submit registrations. Participants will be able to have lectures including Korean Studies, Korean Language, and general studies on East Asian International Relations and other topics.

8th AEARU Student Physical Competition [Apply Now!]
Outline

8th AEARU Student Physical Competition will be held at Korea’s Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) in August. Tokyo Tech students who would like to participate are invited to submit registrations. Participants will be able to enjoy several events, including watching a Rowing Competition, practice using a rowing machine, and going on an excursion.

AEARU Student Summer Camp 2018
Outline

The University of Science and Technology (USTC), China, will host AEARU* Student Summer Camp 2018. The program, conducted in English, “is designed for talented undergraduate students who are currently studying at the AEARU member universities and who wish to create value through innovation as future scientists. During the Camp, participants will study the cutting-edge research at USTC, learn the experience of linking university and industry, see how years of fundamental research could give rise to spin-off company, and experience Anhui culture and traditions near Hefei area. The program consists of campus tours, laboratory visits, visits to spin-off high tech companies, city tour, cultural experiences, workshops, and various social events.”

ASPIRE League

ASPIRE Form 2019 Student Workshop
Outline

Tokyo Tech will host "ASPIRE Forum 2019" in July at Tokyo Tech as a chair of the ASPIRE League. In conjunction with the annual forum, a student exchange program, "Student Workshop" will be held at Ookayama campus. Paticipants will attend lectures and participate in site visits on the theme "Better Living - Innovations and Technologies to Improve Lives." In teams comprised of student counterparts from ASPIRE League and IDEA League* member universities, participants will develop group presentations related to the workshop theme and deliver them to the ASPIRE League's Vice Presidents on the final day of the ASPIRE Forum.

2019 The 6th ASPIRE UGRA (Undergraduate Research Academy)
Outline

The ASPIRE Undergraduate Research Academy (UGRA), held annually, brings together undergraduates from Tokyo Tech, Tsinghua, NTU Singapore, HKUST and KAIST. This year, the UGRA will be held at KAIST with the theme “Better Living: Innovations and Technologies to Improve Lives (Architecture, Environment, AI, Robotics, Health, Medical Engineering, etc)”. Participants will attend lectures, conduct group work, and participate in site visits on the theme.

LIYSF is a two week residential event held at Imperial College London, with lectures and demonstrations from leading scientists, visits to industrial sites, research centres, scientific institutions and organisations, including world class laboratories and universities. LIYSF attracts 500 of the world's leading young scientists aged 16-21 years old from about 70 countries.
