Tokyo Tech's Homecoming Day is an annual event started in 2012. It is a day for welcoming Tokyo Tech alumni back to campus to strengthen ties between the Institute and its graduates, many of whom have gone on to become leaders in various areas of society. 2014 marks the 3rd Homecoming Day. This year Tokyo Tech will also welcome members of the local community whose continued support and understanding of Tokyo Tech activities is deeply appreciated.
Homecoming Day at the Suzukakedai Campus will be held on Saturday, May 17 during the Suzukake Festival. At the Ookayama Campus, Homecoming Day will take place on Sunday, May 25.
Tokyo Tech faculty members and students jointly plan various events to ensure visitors a pleasant day at both campuses. A sampling of events scheduled for Homecoming Day 2014 follows. Please note that all events are primarily in Japanese and simultaneous interpretation is not available.
The Museum
Entering the Ookayama Campus through the Main Gate, visitors are greeted by a distinctly shaped building on the right, the Centennial Hall, which houses the Museum. Exhibit rooms on the B1 and 2nd floors showcase educational and research outcomes produced at Tokyo Tech. Additionally, works of art created by alumni potters, robots developed at the Institute, and geological materials collected for research on the Earth's history are displayed in the building. Take advantage of this opportunity and be sure to visit the Museum. There will be a general information desk set up on the 1st floor of the Centennial Hall for Homecoming Day. You can register there for campus tours.
Walking tours of the Ookayama Campus were very popular last year. In 2014, too, a guide will take participants to the Collaboration Center for Design and Manufacturing (CODAMA), where students enjoy creating things. Another highlight of the walking tour is a visit to the TSUBAME supercomputer.

Located next to the Centennial Hall is one of the Institute Libraries with its triangular, glass-encased study space, and vast collections and reading spaces below ground. In this immensely appealing tour, library staff will show visitors around the building.

Latin jazz band, Los Guaracheros
Current members of various social and cultural clubs will welcome visitors to their tents and classrooms. Live performances by student clubs will take place in the 70th Anniversary Auditorium at the Ookayama Campus. A Latin jazz band, Los Guaracheros, and a choral group, Chor Kleines, will be sure to delight all.
Photo Rescue Project
Tokyo Tech VG is a volunteer group that ran the Photo Rescue Project. Members and others cleaned water- and mold-damaged photos from the areas hit by the tsunami in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake. All the restored photos were returned to the disaster-stricken areas. At Homecoming Day 2014, Tokyo Tech VG will introduce a software application developed to help owners find their rescued and restored photos.
Suzukake Festival
In addition to Homecoming Day, the Suzukake Festival will be held at the Suzukakedai Campus on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18. The festival includes an Open Campus and lab visits. It is planned and organized by students and welcomes visitors with live performances and various tents. Enjoy the festival in the lush, green campus environment and see how the normally quiet Suzukakedai Campus takes on a lively and festive air.
Special lecture
In the afternoon on Homecoming Day, special lectures will be held at both campuses. At the Ookayama Campus, alumnus Mr. Masayuki Yamamura, President of NTT East Corporation, and Professor Kei Hirose of the Earth-Life Science Institute (ELSI) will give lectures. This is an opportunity to hear two of the current top leaders in industry and academia.
The speakers at the Suzukakedai Campus will be alumna Dr. Kayoko Yamamoto, editorial writer for the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, and Professor Makoto Konagai of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering. Dr. Yamamoto will talk about technical communication, and Professor Konagai will give a lecture on cutting-edge energy technologies.
The 3rd annual Homecoming Day will welcome Tokyo Tech alumni and members of the local community with various activities.
The Special Topics component of the Tokyo Tech Website shines a spotlight on recent developments in research and education, achievements of its community members, and special events and news from the Institute.
